Being a volunteer for the Bridge Project at Bradbury Courtyard you will be working with or in an environment with vulnerable adults, many with Learning difficulties or older people.

There are opportunities in a number of different roles all of which require different skills. Full training will be given. All roles could lead to further vocational training and employment opportunities either at Bradbury Courtyard or in the wider community.

Catering

If volunteering in this area you will be preparing food and washing up in our busy kitchen. Where we supply food for the cafe, our very popular lunch clubs and hot food delivery service.

Skills: To work with food you will need to have a Food Hygiene Certificate. Good customer skills will be required. Training for both can be given.

 

Learning/Training Support

We run a number of training courses for vulnerable adults at Bradbury Courtyard. The students often require one to one attention, having a volunteer to help makes this intensive support possible.

Skills:  You will need to have good literacy and numeracy and computer literate.

Laundry Duties

The kitchen, cafe staff and students have clean uniforms every day. This creates lots of sorting, washing, ironing and small repairs.

Skills: Practical person and willing to work on your own initiative.

Ceramics and Paint Your Own Workshops

We run Paint Your Own Workshops for children, which are especially busy during the school holidays. Creative people are required to support workshops, full training will be given. We also run ceramics workshops for vulnerable adults.

Skills:  Practical person with good customer skills. Full training would be given.

Reception

Help is always required on the front desk, welcoming customers, answering the telephone,

signing staff and students in and out, taking payments for refreshments and other purchases.

Skills: You will need good customer service skills and a good telephone manner, also good literacy, numeracy and computer skills.

Courtyard Garden/Allotment

Upkeep is constant and we also need help with building raised flower and vegetable beds. Supporting people to take part in activities, from propagation to growing and harvesting.  All of our produce will be used for the cafe and lunch clubs.

Skills: Practical people with gardening experience.

Packaging Workshops

Small industrial workshops, packaging small components. Used to increase students communication skills, colour recognition and team work.

Skills: Attention to detail is required and you should enjoy supporting / assisting people to achieve.

Back Office Support

There is a lot of work required to ensure that the training courses, workshops and the Courtyard, in general work efficiently. Work in this area would include computer work, typing up reports, lesson planning, photocopying and general administration. Professional skills and graduates would be most welcome.

Skills: Computer literacy and numeracy skills are essential.

  • Interviews

As our work at Bradbury Courtyard is with vulnerable adult’s informal interviews and CRB checks will be required for all roles.

We will organise CRB checks as part of our requirement process, but it may take some time, so it is worth applying several weeks before you want to start volunteering. There is no charge for the CRB checks.

  • Training

Whilst a volunteer at the Bridge Project you will be offered relevant training as necessary for your role.

  • Job Ready

The above roles could lead to employment opportunities and vocational training either at Bradbury Courtyard or in the wider community.
