Courtyard Community Activities

Integrated Community Activities 2007 - 2008

This is a new "pilot" course that aims to provide a learner-led voluntary service within the local community.
Four learners and their tutor have set up a mini enterprise, Courtyard Community Activities (CCA),
based at Bradbury Courtyard. Initially, CCA is providing a range of activities and services to residents
of St Joseph's Residential Home in Sudbury on a Wednesday afternoon, with a view to expanding this
service to other client groups within the local community.

Activities include:

Taking a variety of games, including board games, cards and bingo into St Joseph's and interacting
with the residents
Showing films at Bradbury Courtyard, with light refreshments provided
Hosting a bingo afternoon at Bradbury Courtyard, again with refreshments provided.

CCA is also drawing on the knowledge and experience of specialists from external organisations to offer guidance throughout the course on such subjects as personal presentation, communications, interpersonal skills, social skills, teamwork and health and safety in the workplace.

By the end of the course, it is anticipated that the following objectives will have been met:

To provide an opportunity for learners to gain experience of supported voluntary work.
To promote self confidence and to boost self-esteem and motivation of learners.
To develop existing employability skills and knowledge of learners within a work-based context.
To provide a service for a range of client groups within the local community.
