The Bridge Project, Sudbury is based in the market town of Sudbury, Suffolk. It strives to work towards
its vision, "a community within a community", an inclusive place where everybody is treated fairly, with
dignity and respect.
Vocational training, continuing education and employment opportunities are provided that are fully
accessible, in a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for adults who face multiple disadvantage through their learning, physical and/or "hidden" disabilities. (The most common forms of hidden disabilities include - Aphasia/Dysphasia, Auditory/ Attention deficit disorders, Aspergers Syndrome, Autism, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, depression, allergies, learning difficulties and speech and language problems)
The Bridge Project does not work in isolation it works closely with a range of organisations eg: Papworth
Trust - physical disabilities and ICANHO- Brain Injury, Suffolk County Council, Suffolk & Essex Social Care Services, Suffolk Learning & Skills Council, West Suffolk College, Suffolk Acre, Suffolk West Primary Care Trust, Suffolk Association of Voluntary Organisations, National Council for Voluntary Organisations, Mencap National, Health Advisory Service, Shaw Trust to ensure the delivery of quality services that genuinely
respond to need. At present The Bridge Project supports a core group of learning disabled adults who face multiple disadvantage. Some of whom have Downs Syndrome, severe epilepsy, are within Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Aspergers Syndrome, physical disability, mental health problems, communication difficulties
relating to speech, hearing and comprehension; Hydrocephalus and Neurofibromatosis. In addition the
project also supports dysphasic adults with communication impairments resulting from a brain injury or stroke, and those with difficulty with short term memory and attention span.
Bradbury Courtyard is live and open to the general public. Accredited Vocational training and Basic Skills
via franchise with West Suffolk College. Work experience and work opportunities for adults with disabilities
who cannot access mainstream opportunities due to a multitude of barriers. A range of accessible (lifts in all buildings) conference, meeting rooms and training facilities. At present facilities are used by local voluntary and community groups, Health and Statutory Authorities, Success after Stroke self help group etc.
Courtyard Cafe is open to general public and fully accessible for wheelchairs and buggies. Highchairs, a children's activity table and baby changing facilities are all available. Wheat free products and children's menu are available. All freshly prepared food is cooked in Courtyard kitchen by Catering and served by Hospitality students under guidance from training staff. Gallery-open to public to browse the unique high quality handmade pottery items, cards, craft packs and original artwork.
Paint your own ceramic workshops is open to public. Constant supply of pottery is made by adults with learning disabilities for monthly workshops; school holiday activities and children's parties. On site parking.
